I hope everyone is enjoying their last few days of summer before 2017 officially kicks off again. Or if you’re already back at work – I hope it’s been inspiring and productive. I’m enjoying my last day down south today before I head back to Perth to prep for what is shaping up to be a massive year; kicking off with Darwin on Sunday and then followed closely by a trip to Tassie to deliver some psychology programs and some coaching. I don’t believe in New Years resolutions but I do believe in having clear intentions and spending your time intentionally.
I set four new year intentions for 2016 and I’ve shared how I went with these in 2016 below:
My New Year Intentions for 2016 were:
- To get better at breaky ✅ – this included adding protein to my morning ritual which I 100% achieved and it has made me a much better human throughout the day by alleviating my hanger issues. I wrote a post about this intention on my other blog here.
- Collaboration ✅ Man did I achieve this! I’ve had more coffees with strangers this year than I ever thought was possible. These coffees have opened up so many incredible doors that have opened my eyes to entirely new possibilities and opportunities that are flat out changing my life.
- Trust in the fullness of time and be PATIENT ✅ – oh I love this one. One of my strengths AND weaknesses is that I am an absolute do-er. I get things done. And therefore I expect everything and everyone else to move with me at the speed of light. A wise man said this comment to me when I was feeling frustrated at how long things were taking and I decided that I needed to get better at being patient. This comment absolutely set me up for a widely successful 2016 – as it stuck with me during the first few months of setting up my business. Even when I was having no ‘wins’ I just trusted that if I kept doing what I was doing, and doing it well – then it would all work out in the end. I recently shared a post about setting up my business here.
- One new post a week ⤴️ – this was in relation to Food Prep Sundays. I wanted 2016 to be the year of content! I was really consistent with this up until March but then I headed off to Solomon Islands which was completely unplanned but sensational in every single way and this shifted my priorities for the remainder of the year. This opportunity absolutely needed to be grabbed by the horns as it was a once in a lifetime thing. What’s important to understand about goals, is that sometimes we need to shift them in order to keep us moving forward – and that is totally OK. What the challenge is tho – is knowing when you are kidding yourself and making excuses or when you are genuinely doing what is best for you (and your business/goals).
So reflecting back on 2016 I am stoked with how it all turned out. Quite a few personal challenges were also thrown into the mix too but I trust that in the ‘fullness of time’ everything will all work out in the end.
So what about 2017? My 2017 New Year Intentions:
- Growth – this is in relation to both of my businesses. This is the year of growth.
- Lifestyle – I am absolutely loving working for myself but I am mindful of getting caught in the trap of work becoming my life; which often happens when you run businesses. I want to ensure that I still get to enjoy the perks of entrepreneurship.
- Ask for what I want – I’m known for being quite assertive professionally. I’m good at seeing what is missing and speaking up. But when it comes to asking for something that only benefits me and not a business or someone else, I am horrendous. This ‘weakness’ has led to heavy compromise in the past which ultimately led to resentment and dissatisfaction. So for 2017 I want to get better at voicing my own needs and wants.
So let’s touch base in 12 months shall we? In the meantime, what are your new year intentions for 2017?
